Radio Silence is an interdisciplinary project initiated during The Arctic Circle residency in
Svalbard and the Arctic Sea (April-May 2025). Inspired by the remote sign marking
Ny-Ålesund, the project engages with the Arctic's austere landscapes to interrogate themes of
isolation, and environmental fragility.Through experimental
darkroom & digital techniques, Svalbard’s snow and ice are captured as near-abstract fields,
where sparse human figures are subsumed by the vastness of the environment. These images,
resembling blank canvases, are juxtaposed with stills extracted from a filmed performance of
myself sleeping on an ice floe—a gesture of vulnerability that probes the boundaries of
human presence in a rapidly changing ecosystem.
